Jonah's Big Faith

by Dan Kersten on November 01, 2023

Earlier this year, while speaking on the Light for the Lost tour in the Potomac District, I met Jonah, age 14. His story is amazing. It begins a few years ago at a LFTL banquet where Rick Allen, our National Director, spoke.

Jonah felt God ask him to make a LFTL faith promise of several hundred dollars. In faith he obeyed. Jonah worked to earn extra cash, asked friends and relatives for contributions, and the goal was exceeded. The following year Jonah made a larger faith promise in the thousands. Again, his goal was exceeded!

This year we recognized Jonah (pictured left), his father, Pastor Todd Hodges (right), and their church, Bethel Assembly of God (Chesapeake, Virginia), for sacrificial generosity to LFTL. At the end of the night, Jonah handed me his faith promise form. It was for $10,000! Jonah may be young, but his faith is very strong and mature.

Jonah’s faith and commitment to missions really encourages and inspires me. Jonah makes me want to believe more and give more. After reading this, perhaps you feel the same way? If so, I encourage you to take a moment and pray about doing what Jonah did, and set an ambitious goal for giving in these final months of 2023.

We believe God for $5 million in year-end contributions to LFTL. Jonah is going to do more than his part. I think we can do the same! Thank you for all you do for LFTL and our missionaries.

P.S. I can’t wait to see what Jonah writes on his faith promise form NEXT YEAR!
